Life is a continuous journey of finding oneself, and for Victoire Mynvi, this journey started for her 4 years ago when she first discovered the craft of weaving. It was through studying to become a fashion designer where Victoire started to experiment with creating her own fabrics through weaving, and from there she has been continuously striving to develop her own unique design and style. Now, she is the proud owner of Mynvi. Read on to learn more about her creative process and how she made her works stand out from the rest!
1. Tell us more about your background and what led you to choosing weaving as a craft?
My name is Victoire, I’m 29 and I have a graphic and fashion/pattern maker licence. I love to create things with my hands. I am crazy about colors and fabrics. While I was studying to become a fashion designer, I experimented with techniques of weaving to create my own fabrics. That is what lead me to weaving. To creating my own unique design, and a unique technique.
2. What makes you a KOEL kid?
I started weaving 4 years ago. What I love about this art is the fact that every piece is unique, every person has their own way of practicing. For me, I create my own frame, and I think that is what makes me different from the rest.
3. Share with us the general creative process behind each of your projects.
I generally work by instinct. I can be inspired by a picture, a color or a mood. First of all, I define a format by looking for a certain colour range. After that, I let my inspiration be driven by the color and different wool or materials used, such as leather or ribbons. Sometimes, I work with pictures from my clients such as their interiors, and I try to follow certain graphic lines to design a pattern.
4. Pick one of your favorite designs and answer these quick questions:
The inspiration behind this design is… The sea, and its water movement.
The dream store in witch I would like to stock this design is… Empreintes Paris or Anthropologie
Which celebrity house can you picture your design at… Adenorah or Anne Laure Mais Moreau apartment.
If this design made it big, I would... Travel to open my mind
If this design could talk, it would say... Touch me
5. Great things take time, so how much has changed since you first started weaving and were do you see it in the the next five years?
I started weaving five years ago and a lot of things have changed. I discovered my own technique and style, and worked to improve myself. I really enjoy creating big pieces - the bigger the weaving the more pleasure I take from that. That’s why in the future, I’d like to be commissioned by a luxury hotel or a private customer to create a large masterpiece. And of course, I hope I can have my own studio to design as I’m currently working in my apartment and the space is getting too small.
